Podcasting from Fort Worth, Texas, this is episode 4 of OnTheGo.FM, a metapodcast.
One feature of this OnTheGo.FM metapodcast is a segment called Podcast Local.
It’s all about podcasting for a geographic niche, rather than an interest niche.
Some local podcasts are made by people who simply live in and love their communities. They like talking about their towns, bragging on their teams, or even taking on city hall.
This segment of OnTheGo.FM will investigate, explore, and discover tips, techniques, and best practices for making local podcasts
Podcast Local includes the following:
A show in which you talk about your state, your city, your town, or even your neighborhood.
A show about a sports team, local theater group, or annual city-wide festival or parade.
A church podcast: You’re making podcasts for your congregation and community.
Podcast Local will look at different ways to measure engagement
As we consider different ways to make local podcasts, we will talk about ways to measure listener engagement. This is especially important if you intend to find sponsors for your show.
Think about this
What if you could talk to local businesses about the 1000 local people who listen to your local show every time you publish an new episode?
If you have a business and knew that a local show had an engaged audience like that, would you turn down a chance to tell those people what you offer?
Podcast Local will showcase local podcasters
I’m also going to be talking with people who have already started producing local podcasts. You’ll be able to hear how they got started and what they’ve learned along the way.
And, hey, if you already have a local podcast, I would like to hear from you.
Podcast Local will give you a glimpse at how we’re making our own local show
Looking ahead: You’ll be able to hear some behind-the-scenes stories as my wife and I create a new show for our city. More on that in a future episode.
I’ve got something to get you started thinking about all this.
Here at OnTheGo.FM, we’re creating what we call OnTheGo Guides. These are usually one-page fact sheets, tips, and lists—handy guides to help you.
There are 2 of those OnTheGo Guides available right now for free.
- Podcast Local: 7 ways to tell the stories of your community.
- Podcast Ministry: 8 ways churches can serve their congregations and communities.
You can get one or both when you subscribe to our email newsletter.
I look forward to hearing from you!
